Thoughts

I have just put up a picture captioned The Fighter - It's not my best picture of Dave, but the one that will always mean the most to me because this is how I will remember him, one of the last times I saw him, my good mate who after his diagnosis, always met me with a smile, was always pleased to see me, still managed to share a joke, laugh and swap a funny story, never moaned to me or cursed his bad luck, The fighter, the brave man who never gave up and who lived his life and stayed with me until the very end and I'll miss him

Dave and Lyn introduced me to Snowdonia and hill walking in 2004. They introduced me to another, now great friend, Bill and together those 3 taught me how to walk across mountains using a map, compass and GPS. They gave me the confidence to lead others on those walks, they gave me something that changed my life. Lyn, Bill and me assisted Dave when he took over the leadership and organisation of the annual RCSL Snowdonia Challenge in 2009. When he took it on, the event had less than 20 teams, less than 100 people. When he was forced to stand down in 2014 he had grown the event to 50 teams and 250 people! That is his legacy, as well as a great friend and great company, that is my memory of Dave, a great leader. Now both Dave and Lyn have left us and Bill and I will continue without them, with a huge hole in our lives but also with great memories of 2 wonderful people.
